Can we ever get enough cooking tips? No!

Posted on | March 11, 2010

I asked the readers for cooking tips and the readers complied.

Boy, did they ever comply.

So much so that I’ve been posting them for months so. And, today, I continue with a brand new, fresh batch of tips, right out of the oven. So to speak!

1.    Don’t be afraid of just throwing things together. It’s the only way I’ve figured out how flavors work with each other.

2.    Mise en place is your friend. Also, peel ginger with a spoon.

3.    to not give up and try and practice until you’re satisfied with what you make.

4.    Try turning the heat up… many people don’t get as much flavor out of their food because their heat isn’t high enough.  and  Try turning the heat down… many people will end up with dry, tough meat after a “simmer” because their heat was much too high.

5.    organization! I was not organized and I know the value of it now!

6.    Mise en Place – as simple as that.

7.    Clean as you go! Then you can really enjoy whatever you’ve cooked without the ‘OMG I still have to clean up’ hovering over you.

8.    Freeze leftover coconut milk in a sandwich bag.

9.    Sharp knives

10.    make sure you have everything BEFORE you start cooking…last minutes runs to the store in the middle of cooking are no fun.

Good tips, yes? I think so! What about you … got any good tips? Do share.

If you’re easily distracted like me, set the timer on your stove AND the alarm on your cell phone in case you leave the kitchen.
